Dunkin’ To Debut Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich

Posted: Jul 25, 2019

CANTON, MASS. Dunkin’ Brands Group, Inc. has partnered with Beyond Meat to bring a new breakfast option to the table: the Beyond Sausage breakfast sandwich. The sandwich is part of the company’s commitment to offer consumers “a wide range of menu choices to fit their individual lifestyle needs,” Dunkin’ said. The new offering is available at participating Dunkin’ restaurants in Manhattan with plans for a future national roll-out.

The Beyond Sausage breakfast sandwich features a plant-based patty made with peas, mung beans, rice, sunflower oil and coconut oil plus a mix of spices crafted specifically for Dunkin’, the chain said. Served on an English muffin with egg and American cheese, the offering provides 10 grams of plant-based protein.

"Dunkin' is truly an iconic brand and part of the fabric of so many communities,” said Ethan Brown, chief executive officer of Beyond Meat. “Partnering with them as the first U.S. restaurant chain to serve Beyond Breakfast Sausage represents not only an exciting moment for both of our companies, but a big step forward in making plant-based meat accessible and easy to enjoy, even while on-the-go. I look forward to seeing consumer reactions to the product offering and partnership.”

Dunkin' Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwiches stackAdding the Beyond Sausage breakfast sandwich to its menu supports Dunkin’s focus on sustainability. Production of Beyond Sausage requires less water and less land, generates fewer greenhouse gas emissions and requires less energy than a beef burger to produce, according to Beyond Meat.

"Beyond Meat has earned the national spotlight for its innovative products and for creating incredible awareness and excitement for the benefits of plant-based meat,” said David Hoffman, president and chief executive officer of Dunkin’ Brands. “Dunkin' has always stood apart for offering new and exciting choices to meet the needs of our on-the-go guests, and we are proud to collaborate with this industry leader to become the first U.S. restaurant chain to serve a Beyond Breakfast Sausage option."

Dunkin’ is the latest in a slew of restaurant chains to add Beyond Meat’s plant-based products to the menu. Earlier this month, Tim Hortons introduced Beyond Burgers at its restaurants, Famous Dave’s began testing Beyond Meat barbecue items, and Del Taco rolled out two burritos featuring the company’s meat-mimicking plant protein crumbles. In January, Carl’s Jr. launched its iteration of the Beyond Burger. Other restaurants that serve the Beyond Burger include TGI Fridays, BurgerFi, A&W and Twin Peaks.
