Located just 2.5 hours outside of the city of Chicago, lies the Upper Mississippi River Valley wine region. Never hear of it? Neither had I, and I live in Chicagoland! Looking for a weekend trip close to home for my husband’s birthday, we read about the historic city of Galena and the surrounding areas.
This region is home to some excellent hidden gem wineries, just a short drive from Chicago. The first winery that we visited in the area was the lovely Galena Cellars Winery. This winery offers tours and tastings and has a wide variety of around 40 different wines for sale. You can tour the property, wander freely through he vineyards, hear live music while you sip and snack in one of several indoor ad outdoor seating areas. The great variety of wines, family and dog friendly ambiance, the live music and fun atmosphere all added to a wonderful day. We had panned to go for an hour or so, but ended up staying nearly all day.
This is truly an excellent local winery, with many live music experiences and even yoga classes and other activities offered. Check it out!
