Forward from Go-Wine.com. We have been watching closely the impacts of the Kincade Fire. Unfortunately it has taken a turn for the worst. According to numerous sources, now there are over 150,000 people evacuated; over 50,000 acres impacted; 100's of structures being threatened; and millions impacted due to forced power outages. We are so sorry that this is happening again. Our hearts break for you.
This from the San Francisco Chronicle.
The surging Kincade Fire pushed through the natural firebreaks provided by vineyards Sunday morning, destroying one winery and damaging others in Sonoma County’s famed Alexander Valley wine-growing region.
Around 3 a.m., the fire crossed Highway 128 near Chalk Hill Road east of Healdsburg and hit Soda Rock Winery, where flames shot through its historic stone facade, causing the roof to collapse. Two houses, an artist studio, a water tower and the winery’s main building — a 20,000-square-foot wine production facility, tasting room and event space — were reduced to rubble. Only the stone facade and a steel sculpture of a boar remained.
“I’m still in a fog. It’s still surreal,” Soda Rock owner Ken Wilson said. Along with the winery, he lost all of the just-made 2019 vintage and much of the wine inventory, though some bottled wine is stored offsite, he said.
